ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Clarkson Golden Knights recorded 18 hits, while holding the Oneonta baseball team to two in a 15-2 win over the Red Dragons. Oneonta closes the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at 7-6 overall, while Clarkson moves to 7-4.
The Golden Knights jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. Jackson Waters singled in a pair of runs in the first, and the Golden Knights capitalized with two runs on an Oneonta error in the second. Joe Figliolino singled in one more run in the second.
Senior Eric Korzeniewski (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee)Â struck out one batter in the third as the Red Dragons looked to gain some momentum heading into the top of the fourth. Senior Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.) got Oneont on the board by scoring on a throwing error, and freshman Alex Halwick (Selkirk, NY/Ravena Coeymans Selkirk) singled up the middle to bring senior Anthony Loia (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) home to cut the lead to 6-2.
After striking out two Clarkson batters to open the bottom of the frame, the Golden Knights' bats heated up. Clarkson scored eight runs on seven hits, with Oneont committing one error. James Mason knocked a two-RBI single down the left-field line, and RBI singles from Figliolino, Beau Vardion, and CJ Carter to take a 14-2 lead.
The Red Dragons did not score again, while the Golden Knights added a Vardion home run in the bottom of the sixth to cap off the double-digit win.
Halwick recorded both on Oneonta's hits and had one RBI. Duffy had one run.
Vardion went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Figliolino was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs.
Oneonta returns home to host Oswego in SUNYAC play on Friday, March 20, at 3 p.m.
