GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team dropped their road match to Hobart, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. The non-conference decision moved the Red Dragons to 5-5 overall and the Statesmen to 1-0 this season.
Hobart got out of the gates quickly and took all three doubles matches for the doubles point. Sophomore duo
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and
Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) were bested on court two, 6-2, by Achilleas Kousaridis and Everett Reid. Senior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and junior
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) fell to Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton on court one, 6-1, and junior
Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and sophomore
Ryan Geller (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) stumbled on court three against Tejus Ranadive and J. Martinez Barelles in a 6-0 final.
The Statemen continued the momentum and took all six singles courts in straight sets. Ritterman faced Staunton on court three where Staunton came away with the match in straight 6-2 sets. Chippari slipped on court one to Fischer, 6-0, 6-3, while Schmid was tripped up on court two against Kousaridis, 6-3, 6-0.
Pitaleff went against Michael Georgelis on court four, and Georgelis took the match, 6-0, 6-2. Geller dropped his singles match to Reid on court five, 6-0, 6-1, and Cheung was defeated by Ranadive on court six, 6-0, 6-0.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Sunday, March 8, for a road match against Yeshiva at 1 pm.
