Women's Basketball Drains Program Record 14 Three-Pointers in 85-71 Win Against Morrisville

Five Red Dragons Score in Double Digits in SUNYAC Victory over Mustangs

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's basketball team started on fire from three-point range and recorded nine treys in the first half to finish with a single-game program record 14 threes as they defeated Morrisville, 85-71, in SUNYAC play Saturday afternoon at Dewar Arena. Oneonta had five players score in double digits with four of them recording at least 15 points with three three-pointers. The Red Dragons improved to 11-9 overall with the win, 6-7 against SUNYAC opponents, and the Mustangs dropped to 1-18 this season and 0-12 in conference play. 

Junior Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) went 7-for-14 from the floor, 3-for-8 from deep, to finish with the team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Sophomore Kendall Mack (Cortland, NY/Cortland) shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, 3-for-3 beyond the arc, for 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman Tyalia Fret-Thom (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) totaled 15 points, four assists, and two steals, and senior Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) had 15 points with five boards. Junior Megan Desrats (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) finished with 10 points and tied her career-high eight assists.

"Great bounce back win for the team!" Head Coach Daphne Thompson exclaimed. "This is a testament to their commitment to each other and the program."

Morrisville's Anyssia Ingersoll tied the game at 5:16 before Oneonta closed out the quarter with a 20-4 run for a 26-10 lead. Boucher scored 11 points and knocked down three triples during the stretch, while Fret-Thom added five points, Young hit a trey, and Desrats split a pair at the line.

The Red Dragons continued to hit the three-ball with five more in the second quarter as they grew their lead to 20, 48-28, entering halftime. Freshman Kayla Beaudoin (Brunswick, NY/Tamarac) and Mack each fired in two treys and totaled eight points in the period, and Young added four points. Beaudoin finished the game 2-for-4 from three-point range for eight points and six assists.

After Desrats converted an and-one to start the third quarter, Morrisville went on a 13-6 run and trimmed their deficit to 57-41 at 6:43. Oneonta answered back and closed out the third with an 18-1 stretch to go up 75-42. Fret-Thom led the charge with 10 points, while freshman Skye Cameron-Pressley (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and Mack each scored three, and Young had two.

Mack scored a layup at the start of the fourth quarter to give the Red Dragons a 35-point lead, their largest lead of the game, at 9:54. The Mustangs ended the game on a 29-8 run, where Mack, Desrats, and Young each scored a bucket while Boucher drained two at the line.

Oneonta shot 43.8 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from three-point range, while they finished with a 45-37 rebounding advantage, a 14-2 margin in points off turnovers, and 12-5 in second chance points. The Mustangs shot 42.6 percent from the field, 29.6 percent from deep, and were led by Ingersoll with the game-high 35 points and nine rebounds.

The Red Dragons continue their home stint on Friday, February 6, against Fredonia in SUNYAC play at 5:30 pm.
