Red Dragons Coast to 73-43 Win Over Bears

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's basketball team used a 23-point halftime lead to secure an eventual 73-43 win over Potsdam on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Red Dragons move to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference, while the Bears fall to 3-13 and 2-7 in the SUNYAC.

Junior Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) led all scorers with 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals, two assists, and one block. Senior Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) added 18 points, four boards, and two steals. Sophomore Leela Guobadia (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) added six points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Oneonta outscored Potsdam 23-6 in the first quarter. A 14-0 Red Dragons' run with threes from Young and freshman Kayla Beaudoin (Brunswick, NY/Tamarac) gave Oneonta a 19-4 lead. The Red Dragons took a 20-point lead in the second following ajumper from Boucher at 6:01. Four straight triples from Boucher, Young, and freshman Sydney Pleat (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) made it 40-9. Potsdam reached double digits following a three-pointer from Lillian Hoyt at 1:29. The Bears closed out on an 8-0 run to make it 40-17 at the break.

Boucher sank a three at 7:38 in the third to extend the Red Dragons' lead to 23 points, and back-to-back baskets from Lucie Scarpine cut the Oneonta lead to 43-24. The Red Dragons went on a 12-2 run, capped off with a triple from Pleat to go ahead 55-26.

Another Boucher triple started the fourth to make it a 30-point lead. The Oneonta lead continued to grow with Beaudoin scoring inside to make it 65-31. The Bears had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, but the lead was too much to overcome.

The Red Dragons shot 45.9 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three. Oneonta outrebounded the Bears 41-24.

Oneonta next travels to face Canton on Tuesday, January 27, at 5:30 p.m.
