OSWEGO, N.Y. - Senior Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) recorded a brace as the Oneonta men's soccer team downed Oswego 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons (6-2-1, 1-0-0 SUNYAC) controlled the game by outshooting the Lakers (1-4-3, 0-1-0 SUNYAC) 27-3 in the game.
"Any road win in the conference is a plus, so it was nice to start off the SUNYAC's with three points," said head coach Iain Byrne. "We have a tough start, with three on the road, so a clean sheet is reassuring."Â
Oneonta scored in the 3rd minute with senior Joe Holder (Greenwood Lake, N.Y./Warwick) finding the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Nico Loaiza (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood). The Red Dragons continued the pressure with on-goal shots from freshman Noah Hechler (Somers, NY/Somers) and Holder in the 26th and 28th minutes, respectively. Oneonta finally broke through again when Mancias Magana scored at 42:37 to enter halftime up 2-0.
Oswego took its first shot of the game at 51:49 from Ian Husselbeck. Senior Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) answered with three shots within a minute, but was unable to find the back of the net. Mancias Magana netted his second goal off an assist from junior Zach Tanner (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) to secure the shutout victory.
