ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Brockport on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 0-1-1, while the Golden Eagles move to 1-0-1.
Oneonta had an early chance in the first half when freshman Reilly Landisi (Beacon, NY/Beacon) hit a header wide of the Brockport goal. The Red Dragons followed with a pair of corner kicks, but failed to register a shot. Junior Caroline Schimitsch (Little Neck, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) shot high at 19:04, and freshman Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) fired on-goal at 35:07, but Brockport's Emily McCane turned the ball away.
Brockport's Caitlin Nelson hit the Oneonta crossbar in the 36th minute as the game remained scoreless. The Golden Eagles netted two late goals within less than a minute to take a 2-0 lead before the break. Amelia Breton scored at 41:45, and Caitlin Nelson found the back of the net at 42:26.
Oneonta looked to get on the board in the second when Madeline McCrosson saved senior Kaiden Ring's (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) shot. Brockport scored late in the game from McKenna Slate to secure the victory.
Oneonta will next host the Mayor's Cup on Saturday. Sept. 6 against Skidmore at noon.
