Four Red Dragons Place On 2025 Academic All-District® Softball Team

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Four Oneonta softball players have received recognition on the 2025 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

The Red Dragons earning the honor are seniors Julia Serena (White Plains, N.Y./Valhalla) and Sophia Mangone (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) and sophomores Ava Thys (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson Secondary (Va.)) and Emily Brown (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke).

To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. Field players must have appeared in at least 90 percent of the team's games or have started at least 66 percent of the games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched a minimum of 35 innings.

Both Serena and Mangone graduated this past spring, studying exercise science with a focus in pre-nursing. Serena finished with a 3.56 cumulative GPA, while Mangone had a 3.74 GPA. Thys currently has a 3.60 in psychology, while Brown has a 3.53 studying psychology.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. Select Academic All-District® recipients advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 17, 2025.
