ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team opens the SUNYAC Tournament on Thursday, May 8, when they travel to face host Cortland at noon. In the double-elimination championship tournament, the Red Dragon enters as the fourth seed, while Cortland is the first seed.

Oneonta features a balanced offense with six batters with 40 or more hits this season. Freshman Ryan Cronin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) leads the Red Dragons with 53 hits (.366) and 37 RBI. He added two home runs, three triples, 11 doubles, and 26 runs. Junior Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) recorded 51 hits (.345) with a team-high 47 runs. He also had two home runs, four triples, nine doubles, and 27 RBI. Senior Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) had 48 hits with 14 doubles, 36 RBI, three home runs, and 31 runs.
Senior Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) leads the nation with 47 stolen bases and tallied 42 hits, 37 runs, and a home run. Senior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) batted .323 with 41 hits, 34 RBI, and 29 runs. Senior Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) boasted a .360 batting average on 40 hits, 11 doubles, 24 RBI, and 27 runs. Junior Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.) leads the team with six home runs.
Senior Kyle Roper (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) leads the Red Dragons on the pitching side with a 2.27 ERA on 47.2 innings and a 4-1 record. He held opponents to a .218 average and struck out 40 batters. Senior James Torres (North Salem, NY/North Salem) pitched 40.2 innings with a 4.20 ERA and 24 strikeouts. Freshman Zachary Rowe (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills) has gone 2-2 while pitching 38.2 innings. He has 34 strikeouts on the season. Junior Martin Thorsland (Maryland, NY/Milford Central) has been Oneonta's primary relief pitcher, making 17 appearances this season. He has pitched 34.0 innings with 27 strikeouts and a 3.71 ERA. Thorlsand went 3-2 with one save.
Luis Misla has been the top pitcher for the Cortland this season, pitching to an 8-2 record, including earning the win in each of his last seven starts. For the year, he's posted a 1.21 ERA, while striking out 98 batters. He's allowed only 40 hits and 20 walks in 59.2 innings pitched, holding opposing hitters to just a .185 batting average. Misla also became just the eighth pitcher in program history to reach 200 career strikeouts in the win, doing so in fewer than two full seasons. He is also the first pitcher in program history to record 16 or more strikeouts in multiple games in a season and career.
Matthew Nochowitz has a 5-0 record, tossing 37.1 innings with 51 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA. Meanwhile, Nick Jessen is 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA over 10 starts. The bullpen standouts include Tommy Lynch, who has a 2.59 ERA over 24.1 innings, and Nick Hanson, who has 45 strikeouts over 23.0 innings.
At the plate, Talon Elkins has a team-high .432 batting average and has scored 32 runs, and enters the tournament with a 19-game hitting streak. Marc Stockhausen leads the conference with eight home runs and is batting .352 on the year. Zachary Kringdon has chipped in with a .364 batting average and six home runs. Chris Bonacci has scored 39 runs, fourth in the SUNYAC.
