COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team secured its fifth-straight victory with a 9-4 win at Cobleskill on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons move to 16-6-1 overall, while the Fighting Tigers fall to 5-13.
Oneonta scored in the top of the first innings, with senior Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) singling in a run from junior Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown). Cobleskill responded in the bottom of the frame when David Flora hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-1.
Senior Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) hit a two-RBI single in the third to push the Red Dragons ahead 3-1. Cobleskill tallied runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead. Freshman Ryan Cronin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) doubled in the seventh inning to bring home Foglia and Gilkey to retake the lead at 5-4. RBI singles from senior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) and junior Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.) made it 7-4.
Oneonta tacked on two more in the eighth to win by five.
Jacoby went 2-for-4 with three runs, while Cronin went 3-for-5 with one run and three RBI.
Zach Duvorsky batted 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Both teams used a different pitcher each inning, and junior Eric Korzeniewski (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) grabbed the win.
Oneonta next travels to face Cortland in a three-game series starting on Fri. Apr. 11 at 3 p.m.
