OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team fell 17-9 to Oswego on Monday afternoon. The Red Dragons lose the season series to the Lakers and fall to 21-11-1 overall, while Oswego moves to 21-11.
The Red Dragons opened strong with four runs in the top of the first. Freshman Ryan Cronin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) doubled in a run from senior Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem). Senior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) followed with a three-run home run to put Oneonta ahead 3-0.
The Red Dragons kept the Lakers off the board in the bottom of the frame, and Oneonta continued to roll into the second inning. The Red Dragons loaded the bases, and Cronin hit a two-RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.
Oneonta brought in two more runs from a Brendan Duffy (Southold, NY/Southold Jr./Sr.) home run in the third to make it 8-0. Oswego found its offense in the third, with Daniel Winchester, Dylan Rosenberg, and Matt Carner hitting in runs to cut the lead to 8-3. A sacrifice fly brought home another run, and Carner scored on an error to make it a three-score game.
Junior Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) singled in a run from junior Anthony Loia (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) to give Oneonta a 9-5 cushion in the fifth. The Red Dragons forced the Lakers to two 1-2-3 innings until the seventh. Rosenberg doubled in two runs to make it 9-7 and took the lead on a two-RBI single from Patrick May. Oswego held on and eventually took a 13-9 lead before the final out.
Oswego brought four more runs in the eighth to lead 17-9. Oneonta got within striking distance in the ninth, with runners on first and third, but Oswego's Matthew Drillings struck out the final two Red Dragon batters.
