CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's lacrosse team dropped their final game of the regular season against No. 16 Cortland, 21-7, Saturday afternoon. Junior
Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) led the team with three points off a goal and two assists. Sophomore
Thomas Hnis (Smithtown, N.Y./Kings Park) scored twice while senior
Vincent Tirino (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) and graduate student
Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) each recorded two assists. Oneonta finished the regular season 8-9 overall, 5-2 in the SUNYAC, and Cortland ended the season 15-2, 7-0 in conference play.
Cortland scored seven unanswered in the first period, then recorded nine more goals in the second to take a 16-3 lead into halftime. Senior
Brett Deegan (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) scored Oneonta's first goal at 13:20 in the second off a pass from O'Neil. Junior
Daniel Macchiarella (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) received the ball from Tirino for his eighth goal of the season, then O'Neil found Hnis for a man-up goal.
Oneonta outscored Cortland in the third quarter, 4-2, but Cortland still held an 18-7 advantage. O'Neil scored his 46th goal of the season on a pass from Krieg, then senior
Anthony Munro (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) netted his 23rd goal of the year on a man-up opportunity. Freshman
Tim Navin () recorded his eighth goal of his freshman campaign, and Hnis fired in his 56th goal this season off a pass from Krieg.
Cortland scored three goals in the fourth period for the 21-7 final.

Mark Restivo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) started the first half and stopped nine shots. Junior
Ryan Collins (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) played 22:48 and made two saves, and sophomore
Ben Thayer (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) played the final 7:12 and recorded one save.

Aidan Greene (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) caused two turnovers and collected four ground balls, while senior
Matthew Mangels (St. James/Smithtown East) caused one turnover and grabbed three ground balls. Senior
Stephen Barikyan (Tappan/Tappan Zee) finished 13-for-30 on faceoffs and had three ground balls.
Cortland outshot Oneonta 62-35 and held a 47-28 ground ball advantage. Oneonta was 18-for-27 on clears and 2-for-6 on extra man opportunities, while Cortland was 20-for-21 on clears and 1-for-2 on the man-up.
Oneonta earned the three seed in the SUNYAC tournament and will travel to Oswego to take on the Lakers in the conference semifinals on Wednesday, April 30, at 3 pm.
