ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's lacrosse team fell to Hamilton College, 21-6, Tuesday evening on All College Field. Sophomore
Thomas Hnis (Smithtown, N.Y./Kings Park) led the team with three goals and junior
Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) finished with one goal and an assist. The Red Dragons moved to 6-8 on the season and the Continentals improved to 6-7.
The first three goals were recorded by Hamilton before O'Neil scored Oneonta's first off a pass from senior
Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) at 9:51. The Continentals scored five unanswered goals throughout the first, then senior
Vincent Herbstman (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) dished it to senior
Vincent Tirino (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) with 28 seconds left in the opening period to make it an 8-2 deficit.
Hamilton scored six more in the second quarter and built their lead to 14-3 at halftime. Freshman
Tim Navin () netted Oneonta's goal in the period at 7:00 after he received a pass from O'Neil.
The Continentals extended their lead to 16 at 9:36 in the third, then Hnis fired in three straight goals for a hat trick and made it 19-6 with 9:38 to play. The sophomore's third goal was his 44th of the season and was assisted by sophomore
Finn Morris (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach). Hamilton closed out the game with two more goals for the 21-6 final.
Freshman
Mark Restivo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) played the first period and finished with six saves. Junior
Ryan Collins (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) played 20:25 and led the team with seven saves, and sophomore
Ben Thayer (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) played the final 24:35 and ended with four saves.
Hamilton outshot Oneonta 38-15 on net, went 23-for-31 on faceoffs, and held a 52-21 ground ball advantage. The Red Dragons were 15-for-21 on clear attempts while the Continentals were 18-for-19 on clears.
Oneonta is back in action on Saturday, April 19, for a SUNYAC game against Morrisville at 3 pm on Red Dragon Field.
