ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision to Misericordia on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 3-5 overall, while the Cougars move to 2-5.
Oneonta struck first in the opening quarter, with Vincent Herbstman (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) scoring at 14:10. Misericordia answered at 12:15 with a goal from Jared Pelliccione to tie 1-1. Another Herbstman goal and a score from junior Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) made it 3-1 before the Cougars' Conner Gundersen found the back of the net at 4:25 to make it 3-2 heading into the second quarter.
Sophomore Thomas Hnis (Smithtown, N.Y./Kings Park) scored a man-up goal at 10:04 to give Oneonta a 4-2 lead, and Misericordia scored the only other goal with 45 seconds left in the half to make it a 4-3 at the break.
O'Neil found Anthony Munro (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) for the opening goal of the second half to push the Red Dragons ahead 5-3, but the Cougars rattled off three goals within a minute to take their first lead at 6-5. Hnis tied at 7:44, but Jason Giambrone retook the Misericordia advantage at 7-6.
The Cougars shut out Oneonta 3-0 in the fourth to secure the win.
Hnis and Herbstman led the team with two goals, while O'Neil and Munro each scored.
Gundersen recorded a hat trick, and Ty Murawski and Pellicciione scored two.
Freshman Mark Restivo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made seven saves in goal, while Chris Dindino had 14 for Misericordia.
Oneonta next plays at Geneseo on Wed. Mar. 26 at 4 p.m.
