ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta athletics department is excited to announce the hiring of Dean Kamvakis as an assistant athletic trainer. Kamvakis most recently was the head athletic trainer at St. Joseph's College-Long Island for the past five years.
"The SUNY Oneonta Athletic Department is extremely excited to announce the hiring of Dean Kamvakis as our new Assistant Athletic Trainer," said Oneonta Director of Athletics Ryan Hooper. "He comes to Oneonta with a number of years of experience within sports medicine, which we know will help to provide well-rounded care. In such an important position, we know he will immediately impact our student-athletes. We welcome Dean to the Red Dragon family."
Before St. Joseph's College, Kamvakiswas the head athletic trainer at the New York Institute of Technology for 27 years. At NYIT, Kamvakis oversaw all facets of the athletic training and sports performance departments, which included two full-time trainers and two strength coaches, and worked with over 250 NCAA Division II athletes.
Kamvakis earned his M.S. in Physical Education from Ithaca College in 1991, one year after completing a B.S. in Biology from St. Lawrence University. A National Athletic Trainers Association member, Kamvakis is also a New York State Certified Athletic Trainer.
