ONEONTA, N.Y. - Oneonta athletics finished third overall in the final SUNYAC Commissioner's Cup Standings as announced by the conference office this week. Cortland won for the third year in a row with 9.47 points. New Paltz finished second with 7.02 points, and Oneonta was third with 6.96 points.
The cup was named for Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012, upon his retirement as SUNYAC Commissioner after 33 years in the position. Damore passed away at the age of 90 on May 23, 2021.
Oneonta women's outdoor track and field team was the runner-up at the SUNYAC championship meet, while the men's team finished fourth overall. The men's lacrosse team finished the regular season ranked No. 2 and advanced to the championship game. The baseball team was fourth while the softball team was fifth. The women's lacrosse team advanced to the SUNYAC semifinal as the fourth seed.
The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 22 different conference sports in the fall, winter, and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points, and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to its postseason finish and divided by 2 to determine its final total for that sport. The total number of points a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it participates in.
