SAINT-LAMBERT, MONTREAL – The Oneonta women's basketball team was bested by the No. 1 nationally ranked New York University, 89-37, on the final day of the Montreal Shootout at Champlain College Saint-Lampert, Tuesday afternoon. Junior
Angelena Giuliano (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) and freshman
Tyalia Fret-Thom (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) co-led Oneonta with nine points, while freshman
Addy Eckert (Bloomville, N.Y./South Kortright) finished with eight points, nine rebounds, and three assists. The result moved the Red Dragons to 5-3 this season and the Violets to 10-0 overall, extending their winning streak to 72 games.

New York University took a 21-4 edge after the first quarter as Eckert and freshman
Skye Cameron-Pressley (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) each recorded a bucket in the paint for Oneonta. In the second quarter, Giuliano stole the ball and went down the court for a fastbreak layup, Eckert drained a pair at the line, and Fret-Thom knocked down a triple, however the Violets maintained their momentum and took a 44-11 lead into the break.

Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) put up five points in the third quarter, while Fret-Thom, Giuliano, sophomore
Kendall Mack (Cortland, NY/Cortland), and senior
Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) each scored a basket as New York University went into the fourth quarter ahead 62-24. In the final period of play, Eckert, Giuliano, and Fret-Thom recorded all 13 points for the Red Dragons.
"It was a great weekend for our team going into the new year!" Coach Thompson concluded.
Oneonta shot 25.5 percent from the floor, while New York University shot 41.8 percent from the field and finished with a 47-39 rebounding advantage. Aila Kaibara and Olivia Lagao led the Violets with 14 points each.
The Red Dragons return to Dewar Arena for their next game on Tuesday, January 6, in a SUNYAC contest against Canton at 3 pm.
