Red Dragons and Bears End In Scoreless Draw

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team and Potsdam came away with a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons go to 2-4-3 overall and 0-0-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Bears move to 6-3-2 and 0-2-1 in the conference.

Potsdam took the first shot with senior goalie Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) saving a shot from Jaidan Kertenis at 1:20. Junior Katie Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) fired a long-range shot in the fourth minute that Potsdam goalkeeper Megan Fry stopped. Sophomore Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) struck the crossbar at 11:52, but the game remained scoreless.

Oneonta kept the pressure up with on-goal attempts from junior Emaa Parente and Kealey that were both turned aside by the Bears' goalie. The Red Dragons drew a handball inside the box at 42:02. Sophomore Kennedy Becker (Croghan, NY/Beaver River Central) took the penalty kick, but Fry made the save to keep it 0-0 at halftime.

Oneonta held Potsdam to one shot in the second half, but the Red Dragons' offense slowed down as well. Junior Lisa Schinckel (Sydney, Australia/Hornsby Girls School) nearly scored in the 88th minute with a high-arcing shot, but once again Fry made the save.

Oneonta outshot Potsdam 17-3 and held a 7-4 corner kick advantage.

Meehan finished with two saves, while Fry had eight.

Oneonta next travels to Plattsburgh on Wednesday, October 8 at 4 p.m.
