FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's basketball team used the second quarter to build a 14-point lead into halftime and held it during the second half to defeat Fredonia on the road, 68-52, in SUNYAC play Friday evening. Oneonta had four players record double digit points and were led by senior Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) who shot 8-for-14 from the floor to finish with 20 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore Megan Desrats (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) went 6-for-9 from the field for 15 points, seven boards, and four assists as the Red Dragons improved to 9-10 on the season, 6-6 in the SUNYAC, and the Blue Devils dropped to 6-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Fredonia created a 10-4 lead then junior Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central High School) drove to the rim for the basket and a foul for a three-point play at 3:57 in the first. The Blue Devils regained the six-point advantage until Desrats hit a deep corner jumper and freshman Nai Torres (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) stole the ball for a floater that brought the Red Dragons within two, 15-13.

Oneonta powered a 21-3 run throughout the second quarter and built a 36-22 lead heading into the break. Desrats and junior Emma Schwarzbeck (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill Senior High School) each knocked down a pair of three-pointers to start the stretch. After a layup from Desrats, sophomore Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) drained a triple from the top of the key to go ahead 30-18. Payton Gilbert scored a couple baskets for Fredonia in the final minute, then Zuntag made a last-second putback for the 14-point margin.

The Blue Devils chipped away at the deficit and made it 40-34 at 6:49 in the third, however the Red Dragons answered with a 14-2 run to close out the quarter ahead 54-36. Torres drilled a three-pointer from the wing and had six points during the stretch, Zuntag added five, and Schwarzbeck connected on a deep trey from the top of the arc. Oneonta maintained at least a 15-point lead during the final quarter for the victory.
