HARTFORD, CONN. - After tying 1-1 before halftime, Trinity scored three unanswered goals in the second half to secure a 4-1 win over the Oneonta women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 0-5-1 with the loss, while the Bantams move to 1-5-0.
After four shots in the opening eight minutes, Trinity broke through the Oneonta defense on the fifth attempt. Taylor Troskey passed to Elena Lindonen for the opening goal to make it 1-0 at 9:36. Following a corner at 24:48, the Red Dragons fired shots on goal from Gianna Hanner (Ridge, NY/Longwood), Dominique DiOrio (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), and Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) that Trinity goalkeeper Lily Bracken saved.
In the 41st minute, sophomore Caroline Schimitsch (Little Neck, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) struck the crossbar. Freshman Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) collected the rebound and fired into the back of the net to level the score heading into the break.
Trinity scored back-to-back goals at 55:27 and 57:16 from Lindonen and Emma Almoney to push the lead to 3-1. Ring mustered a shot in the 60th minute that goalie Zoe Tamborello stopped.
The Bantams scored their fourth goal in the 64th minute, with Alyssa Keane chipping the ball off a corner kick.
Trinity outshot Oneonta 21-12 and held an 8-4 corner kick advantage.
Junior Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) made four saves in goal. Trinity's Bracken had four, and Tamborello had three.
Oneonta next opens the SUNYAC play at Oswego on Sat. Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
