ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team opened their 2024-25 season with a 5-2 victory over Houghton, Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham), freshman
Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) and junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) each won their doubles and singles matches. The Red Dragons start the season 1-0 while the Highlanders dropped to 0-2 overall.
Oneonta received the doubles point with a couple of wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. Chippari teamed up with Schmid and defeated Nolan Zach and Graham Cook on the No. 1 court, 6-2. Pitaleff and freshman
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) paired up on the No. 2 court and recorded their first collegiate win, beating Preston Tobolski and Jonas Likens, 6-1.
Chippari double bageled Zach, 6-0, 6-0, on the No. 1 court in singles play. Freshman
Ryan Geller () secured his first collegiate win with straight 6-1 sets over Likens on the No. 4 court. Schmid upended Cook on the No. 2 court, 6-1, 6-4, and Pitaleff won his first singles match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jason Murphy on the No. 5 court. Ritterman battled in his singles match on the No. 3 court, however Tobolski won in the super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 10-4. Junior
Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) also had a close match on the No. 6 court, but Wallace Palethorpe took it, 7-5, 6-4.
The Red Dragons will compete in the two-day Union Invitational starting on Saturday, September 14, at 9 am.
