ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team concluded their seven-game road trip with a 7-2 victory over St. John Fisher, Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons have won three straight and improved to 7-5 on the season while the Cardinals dropped to 0-5. Freshmen
Zachary Blaakman (Penfield/Penfield High School),
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham), and
Brayden Stuart (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks HS / New Hyde Park) all won in doubles and singles play to go 2-0 on the day.
Oneonta secured two wins in the doubles matches. Chippari and Stuart defeated Anthony Molosag and Anthony Mendoza on the No. 2 doubles court, 8-4. Blaakman paired up with sophomore
Nathaniel Inzerrilo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) on the No. 3 court and walked away with an 8-4 win over Mika'il Iqbal and Trentyn Grant.
The Red Dragons kept the momentum going into singles play and won five of the six matches. Stuart double bageled Iqbal on the No. 4 court, 6-0, 6-0. Chippari only dropped one game in his singles match and went on to beat Ryan Wilson, 6-1, 6-0, on the No. 3 court. Blaakman went back and forth in his first set against Mendoza then cruised in the second set to a 6-4, 6-1 victory on the No. 5 court. Senior
August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) beat Tyler Hernandez on the No. 1 court, 6-2, 6-2, and sophomore
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) defeated Will Chubb in straight sets on the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-3.
Oneonta is home for the first time this spring in their next match on Thursday, April 4, against Union at 4 pm on the Dr. Heissan '63 Courts.
