AUBURNDALE, FL -Â Rutgers-Camden scored eight runs in the first inning on Tuesday afternoon to win 17-5 over the Oneonta baseball team. The Red Dragons fell to 5-5 with the loss, while the Scarlet Raptors moved to 8-3.Â
The Scarlet Raptors rattled off eight runs and six hits in the top of the first inning, with Danny Vazquez hitting a two-RBI single to right center to cap it off.Â
Junior Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) led off with a walk and reached home on a single from sophomore Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River). Junior Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) knocked a double to left field to bring two runs in to cut the lead to 8-3.Â
Three straight outs for Rutgers in the second led to a quick Oneonta at-bat in the bottom of the frame. Senior Gregory Bandura (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) singled to right field and reached second on a wild pitch. Gilkey hit down the middle to add the Bandura run to make it 8-4.Â
The Scarlet Raptors' lead-off batter flew out to Hutter, and junior Logan Kaufman (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) caught a line drive for the first two outs. Antonicel doubled and was singled home by Justin Watson to add Rutgers' ninth run.Â
Oneonta scored again in the bottom of the fourth when senior Liam Kaseta (Somers, NY/Somers) hit a sacrifice fly to allow senior Sean Liquori (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) to reach home.Â
Kaufman struck out two batters in the fifth, but an Oneonta error gave Rutgers a pair of runs. Vazquez added a third run when Watson reached home.Â
The Red Dragons were shut out for the remainder of the game, and the Scarlet Nights added three more runs in the eighth to call the game early.Â
Hutter batted 2-for-3 with two RBI, while six other Red Dragons recorded hits. Kaufman pitched 4.1 innings with two strikeouts and four runs.Â
Antonicel went 5-for-5 with five runs and two RBI, while Watson was 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.Â
