SALEM, OR -Â The Oneonta baseball team concluded their Oregon trip with two losses to Willamette on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons (0-4) fell 10-0 and 8-7 to the Bearcats (4-0.
Willamette shut out Oneonta in the first game as the Red Dragons were held to five hits. The Bearcats tacked on two runs in the second inning and added a third in the bottom of the third inning. In the fifth, Ferbet singled in a runner to push the lead to 5-0. Another single from Foster allowed Ferbet to score, and Grancucci hit a three-RBI double to give Willamette a double git lead.Â
Oneonta picked up hits from seniors Sean Liquori (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) and Liam Kaseta (Somers, NY/Somers), but the Red Dragons could not reach home.
Kaseta hit 3-for-3 to lead Oneonta.Â
Foster was 3-for-5 with two runs and a RBI. Ferbet had two hits and two runs.Â
Oneonta used a solid first inning to take a 4-0 lead, with junior Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) scoring on a wild pitch and junior Ethan Duda (Latham, NY/The Albany Academies) singling in Liquori. Willamette responded in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs, with Lawson hitting a single to allow Granucci and Baskin to reach home.Â
The Bearcats tied 4-4 in the second, but Oneonta answered in the fourth. Gilkey scored on a throwing error, and Logan Hutter (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West/Smithtown) knocked a single to left center to bring Joey Dwyer (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) home.Â
Willamette's Lawson hit a 2 RBI home run in the fifth to make it 6-6. In the sixth, Matt Sandoval (West Islip, NY/West Islip Senior) doubled to left center, which brought Liquore in for a run to make it 7-6.Â
Lawson hit another two RBI home run in the seventh to make it 8-7 as the Bearcats held on for the win.Â
Sophomore Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Dwyer was 2-for-4 with two runs. Gilkey and LIquori both had two runs.Â
Senior Tom Roefaro (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) went 3.2 innings with five strikeouts, seven hits, and four runs. Â
Lawson finished 4-of-5 with two home runs, one run, and six RBI. Daly (1-0) went 2.0 innings with four strikeouts. Joyner earned the save with three strikeouts over 1.0 inning.
Oneonta returns for their home-opener on Sat. Mar. 2 to face Canton at 2 p.m.Â
