ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's basketball team dropped their non-conference game to Cobleskill, 67-44, Tuesday evening in Dewar Arena. It was a four-point game at halftime then Cobleskill took control in the second half for the win. Senior
Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) had the team-high 11 points with two rebounds, as the Red Dragons moved to 2-3 on the season and the Fighting Tigers improved to 6-1 overall.
Zuntag recorded the first couple baskets for Oneonta to keep the game tied until Cobleskill went on a 7-0 run to go up 11-4 at 2:34 in the first. Sophomore
Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) scored inside the paint then junior
Emma Schwarzbeck (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill Senior High School) hit a fastbreak jumper from the wing to pull the Red Dragons within three, however Taylor Meacham converted an and-one for a 14-8 advantage at the end of the quarter.
Meacham made another three-point play to put the Fighting Tigers ahead 20-10 at 8:44, then the Red Dragons closed out the half with a 12-6 stretch. Zuntag started the run with a catch-and-shoot three from the top of the arc, and senior
Sophia Wakin (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) scored off a putback then hit a pair of free throws to make it 22-17 at 5:27. After the Tigers made a couple layups, sophomore
Megan Desrats (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) knocked down a triple from the wing and junior
Avery Kenyon (Hammond, NY/Hammond) scored over her defender to cut the Red Dragons' deficit to four at halftime, 26-22.
Cobleskill found their way offensively in the second half and outscored Oneonta 41-22 in the final 20 minutes. Desrats drove inside for a layup at 6:45 to make it a nine-point deficit, 35-26, however Antonia May answered with a three-pointer for Cobleskill, and they held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Wakin finished with eight points and three rebounds for the Red Dragons, Desrats recorded seven points and four boards, and senior
Nadia Brown (Troy, NY/Troy) totaled six points and three assists. Logan Thayne and Meacham each had the game-high 17 points for the Fighting Tigers, and May had 16 points.
Cobleskill shot 36.1 percent from the field and held a 41-34 rebounding advantage, while Oneonta shot 24.6 percent from the floor.
The Red Dragons' next game is on the road for the start of SUNYAC play on Tuesday, December 3, at Oswego at 5:30 pm.
