Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Red Dragons Tame Bears, 1-0

ParentePOTSDAM, N.Y. - Sophomore Emma Parente (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) netted a goal in the first minute to lead the Oneonta women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Potsdam on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons move to 2-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Bears fall to 2-9-0 and 0-3-0 in the conference.

Potsdam's Sarah Emmi took the opening shot that sailed high over the Oneonta goal at 1:07. The Red Dragons responded less than a minute later, and their first shot proved to be a goal. Junior Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) took the ball on the right side of the Potsdam box and crossed to Parente in the left corner. Parente was left open and slipped the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 at 1:50.

The Bears answered with two on-goal shots in the 6th and 8th minutes. Adrianna Orlando struck bottom left, and Meg Napoleon aimed top left, but junior goalie Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) stopped both.

Oneonta looked to build its lead with senior Shannon Lowney (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) firing a shot at 20:40 that Potsdam goalkeeper Megan Fry picked up. Meehan stopped three Bears' shots within two minutes to keep Potsdam off the board. The Bears took a final shot at 44:14 to end the half from Hailey Von Ahn that Meehan saved.

Lowney took shots at 48:45 and 49:47, both of which went high. Potsdam kept the pressure up by taking four shots on goal in the half but could not find the back of the net.

Oneonta outshot Potsdam 19-18 and held a slight 4-3 corner kick advantage. Meehan finished with a season-high 11 saves in her second shutout of the year. Fry grabbed five saves for the Bears.

Oneonta returns home to face Plattsburgh on Wed. Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. in their OneLove Game.
