CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta baseball team fell 12-2 to Brockport in the first game of the SUNYAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Red Dragons now play Oswego tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
In the bottom of the first, senior struck out the lead-off Brockport batter, and the following two flew out for the 1-2-3 inning.Â
Oneonta could not find any offense in the top of the second, and the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the frame. Ryan Voight singled in a run from Ryan Mansell for the opening score.Â
The Red Dragons went 1-2-3 at the top of the third. Brockport then rolled with six runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Zach Eldred singled in a run, and Patrick Bigham hit a sacrifice to make it 3-0. A three-RBI home run from Justin Pangburn capped off the inning.Â
Oneonta got on the board in the fourth when senior Jake Barrett (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) reached home from a Liam Kaseta (Somers, NY/Somers) sacrifice fly to center field.Â
Brockport continued to build its lead in the fifth inning when Bigman hit a home run down the left-field line. Belsito hit a double to add two more runs and push the lead to 11-1.
Sophomore Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) scored on a Nate Guillen (Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) sacrifice fly for Oneonta's second run of the day.Â
The Golden Eagles added one more run in the seventh and held the Red Dragons to one more hit for the rest of the game.
Liquori (3-3) went 4.0 innings with one strikeout, while Brockports Andrew Huffman (2-0) went a complete 9.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Oneonta returns to action to play Oswego tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Oswego fell 10-5 to Cortland in the earlier game.
