ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta baseball team split Saturday's SUNYAC doubleheader against Brockport at Red Dragon Baseball Field. The Red Dragons (19-5, 5-1 SUNYAC) took the first game 3-2 and then fell 3-1 in the second game to the Golden Eagles (15-9, 7-2 SUNYAC). 

Brockport scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Zach Eldred singled in Nick Pastore, and then James Houlahan hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. The Golden Eagles' pitching caused trouble for the Red Dragons, with Mark Colucci striking out two batters over the next two innings. 

Oneonta used a three-run fourth inning to take the lead. Senior Liam Kaseta (Somers, NY/Somers) hit a single, and senior Jake Barrett (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) was hit by a pitch. The Red Dragons loaded the bases when sophomore Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) walked. Senior Sean Liquori (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) brought in one run following a single to center field, and then fifth-year Joe Ottaviano (Nanuet, NY/Albertus Magnus) hit a two-RBI single to give the Red Dragons a 3-2 lead. 

Oneonta held Brockport to just one hit for the remainder of the game.

Junior Devin Rooney (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) pitched 7.0 innings with three strikeouts and moves to 4-0 this season. Senior Logan Carriero (Somers, NY/Somers) earned his seventh save of the season and pitched the ninth inning with one strikeout. 

Colucci (2-2) struck out three batters in 5.0 innings, while Alex Lapine had four strikeouts. 

In the second game, Oneonta's Michael Sadowski (Queens, NY/Queens Metropolitan) struck out two Golden Eagles in the first for a 1-2-3 inning. The Red Dragons scored first in the bottom of the second when Liquori led off with a walk and reached third on a Michael Sandoval double to right field. Senior Nate Guillen (Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) grounded out to the third base, but Liquori went home to make it 1-0. 

The Golden Eagles capitalized on some Red Dragons' miscues in the third to bring in three runs. Brockport loaded the bases with no outs, and an Oneonta error allowed Quentin Mahoney and Nick Mahar to score. A single from Eldred added one more run to give Brockport a 3-1 lead which they held for the rest of the game. 

The Red Dragons had a few chances to score, but a solid pitching performance from the Golden Eagles held Oneonta in check. 

Sophomore Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) and Barrett both finished 2-for-4. 

Sadowski (1-2) struck out seven batters in 6.1 innings, while graduate student Derek Shea (West Kingston, RI/Wells College) had one strikeout in 2.2. 

Oneonta next travels to face Union in non-conference action on Tue. Apr. 11 for a 6 p.m. contest.
