ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â Senior Sean Liquori (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) pitched a complete game shutout in the 1-0 conference win over Brockport on Friday afternoon. Liquori went 9.0 innings while striking out five batters with only three hits as Oneonta moves to 18-4 overall and 4-0 in the SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles now stand at 14-8 and 6-1 in the conference.Â
It was a pitching battle early on, with the first inning going 1-2-3 in both frames. Brockport's Zach Eldred singled at the top of the second, but a pop-out and a strikeout kept it scoreless.Â
Oneonta reached a base for the first time in the fourth inning when sophomore Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) walked. He took second when senior Liam Kaseta (Somers, NY/Somers) hit a sacrifice bunt. The following Red Dragon lined out to third, and then Golden Eagles' pitcher Adam Douglas struck out another.Â
Three innings without a hit or reached base followed, and the Red Dragons mustered two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman Nick Jacoby (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) led off with a single to right field and took second following a Gilkey sacrifice bunt. Senior Jake Barrett (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) knocked an RBI double to center field to put Oneonta on the board at 1-0.Â
The Red Dragons' defense took out the Golden Eagles 1-2-3 in the seventh and eighth innings, with Liquori sticking out one.Â
In the top of the ninth, Brockport's Nick Patore was hit by a pitch, but then Eldred grounded out into a double play from senior Nate Guillen (Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland), Jacoby, and sophomore Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) to end the game.Â
Liquori (2-0) threw 104 pitches and only walked one batter.
Douglas (3-1) went 7.0 innings with 104 pitches, five strikeouts, two walks, and two hits.Â
