COBLESKILL, N.Y. -Â Senior Jake Barrett (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) hit two home runs, but five Oneonta errors helped Cobleksill to a 17-15 win in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. There were 32 hits as the Red Dragons fell to 22-10, and the Fighting Tigers moved to 19-12 overall.Â
After Oneonta's lead-off batter walked, sophomore Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) knocked in a home run to put Oneonta up 2-0. Barrett followed up with another home run, and then Joe Ottaviano (Nanuet, NY/Albertus Magnus) singled home senior Sean Liquori (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) to make it 4-0. Cobleskill could not respond, and Oneonta appeared in control through the top of the second inning when Barrett hit a three RBI home run to put the Red Dragons up 7-0.Â
Cobleskill had some fight in the bottom of the frame when Logan Hutter hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which brought home one runner. Singles from Frank Leger and Zach Ducorsky added two more runs to cut it to 7-3 before Martin Thorsland (Maryland, NY/Milford Central) struck out the final batter.Â
Liquori led off with a double in the third and then scored on an Ottaviano single to left field. Ottaviano reached home following a Foglia sacrifice fly to push the Red Dragons' lead to 9-3.Â
Oneonta kept Cobleskill scoreless and added three more runs in the top of the fifth from a sophomore Josh Gilkey (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minor) RBI double and then a two-RBI single by Foglia.Â
Momentum completely swung Cobleskills' way in the bottom of the fifth as the Fighting Tigers tied 12-12. Cobleskill scored three runs on a pair of Oneonta errors, and then a Chris Champlin single brought in two more runs.Â
The Fighting Tigers took the lead in the sixth when Cobleskill loaded the bases and walked a run in. A double from Champlin added two more runs, and a Red Dragons' error pushed the lead to 17-12.Â
In the seventh and final inning, Oneonta began with a Nate Guillen (Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) double to left field, and he then scored on a Gilkey sacrifice fly. Barrett singled in a run before Foglia reached home on another sacrifice fly. A final flyout ended the game at 17-15.Â
Barrett finished 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs, while Foglia was 2-for-2 with three runs, five RBI, and one walk.Â
Ducorsky batted 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Champlin was 4-for-4 with five RBI and three runs.Â
Oneonta next travels to face Oswego on Fri. Apr. 28 at 3 p.m.
