CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â Cortland knocked in two home runs in the first inning and then poured in ten runs in the fourth on the way to a 23-4 win over Oneonta on Friday afternoon. Oneonta fell behind early and falls to 19-7 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC with the loss, while Cortland moves to 20-7 and 10-0 in the conference.Â
After Cortland's lead-off batter grounded out, Nick Chemotti hit a home run on his first pitch to take a 1-0 lead. Adam Mieczkowski followed with a two-RBI home run to make it 3-0 before Oneonta could end the frame.
Cortland brought in eight more runs in the bottom of the second inning. A single from Chris Bonacci brought in three runs to take a 6-0 lead. Cortland added three more hits and five runs to go ahead 11-0.
Oneonta got on the board in the fourth when Matt Sandoval (West Islip, NY/West Islip Senior) singled in Jake Barrett (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) for a run.Â
Any sense of momentum Oneonta had was lost in the bottom of the fourth when Cortland brought in ten runs on nine hits and one home run.Â
In the fifth, senior Franklin Padilla (Brooklyn, NY/LaSalle Academy) pinch-hit and launched a home run to center field to make it 21-3. Oneonta added one more run in the seventh from junior Alex Wurster (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore).Â
Cortland's Dylan Beers (5-1) struck out five batters.Â
Oneonta looks to bounce back when they play Cortland in a double header on Sat. Apr. 15 at noon.Â
