ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta baseball team picked up its sixth win in four days following a 6-1 victory over Utica on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Jake Barrett (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony's) batted 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI to help the Red Dragons to their 13th straight win.Â
Oneonta (15-3) scored five runs in the opening two innings to take an early 5-0 lead over Utica (10-5). In the bottom of the first, sophomore Josh led off with a single up the middle. Barrett singled Gilkey home, and then a two-RBI triple from junior Gregory Bandura (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) pushed the Red Dragons' lead to 3-0.Â
Oneonta brought in two more runs in the second inning. With two outs, Kaseta scored on a Barrett double, and then sophomore Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) doubled in Barrett. At the top of the third, Utica was taken out 1-2-3, with junior Tom Roefaro (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) striking out the third batter. Roefaro struck out three more Pioneers in the fifth and another in the sixth.Â
Utica loaded the bases in the seventh inning, and a pitch hit Taylor Jennings to walk in Nathan Yantz to cut the Oneonta lead to 5-1.Â
Barrett answered in the bottom of the frame with a home run to left field to make it 6-1. Junior Kyle Rosenberger (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) came in to pitch the eighth inning and struck out two, and then sophomore James Torres (North Salem, NY/North Salem) pitched the ninth and struck out three batters.Â
Foglia went 2-for-4 with one double, one run, and one RBI. Bandura added two RBI.Â
Roefaro (3-0) pitched 6.0 innings while striking out five batters.Â
Oneonta next hosts Vassar on Sat. Apr. 1 at noon.Â
