DAVENPORT, FL -Â The Oneonta baseball team struggled to find any rhythm in its RussMatt Central Florida Invitational opening game, falling 10-0 to Greenville (4-5) on Monday morning. The Red Dragons (2-3) only mustered two hits opposed to the Panthers' 12.Â
Oneonta got runners on first and third following a single from Anthony Foglia (Somers, NY/North Salem) at the top of the third, but a ground out to second base kept it 0-0. Greenville grabbed a run in the bottom of the frame when Drew Frey scored on a passed ball.Â
Oneonta could not register a hit in the second, and pitcher Kyle Roper (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) struck out two batters the following inning to keep it a one-run game. The Panthers added runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead. Greenville continued to roll, sent in four runs and four hits in the bottom of the sixth, and finished the Red Dragons off with two more runs in the seventh.Â
Foglia finished 2-for-3 at-bat, and Roper (0-1) struck out five batters.
Seven different Panthers recorded a hit, with George Schneider going 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Luke Fleener (2-1) earned the win by going 6.0 innings with two strikeouts.Â
