ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta men's and women's swimming teams concluded the regular season with a dual meet against New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. In the senior day meet, the men fell 98-78.5, while the women lost 98.5-79.Â
The condensed meet was a final tune-up before the SUNYAC Championships and started with the mixed 200-yard medley relay. Oneonta's group of seniors Kayla Keddy (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and Kyle Copper (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman), junior Ross Caimano (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), and sophomore Lena Nakken (Islip, NY/Islip) placed second with a time of 1:50.55. The Red Dragons also grabbed fourth with the relay squad of senior Emma Trumino (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley), juniors Anna Guzzo (Niskayuna, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) and Daniel Oh (Huntington, NY/Harborfields), and sophomore James Llewellyn (Great River, NY/East Islip) at 1:53.81.
The men's teams competed in the 200-yard fly, with Copper taking first overall with a time of 2:01.66. Oh placed third at 2:23.41. Up next was the 200-yard freestyle, and junior Sophia Olson (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) took first by over a second at 2:06.21. Trumino grabbed third overall by touching at 2:16.97. Sophomore Jonathan Stanzione (East Islip, NY/East Islip) earned second on the men's side, finishing at a personal best of 1:55.83. Freshman Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) swam a personal record of 2:00.13 to place third.Â
Keddy led the Red Dragons with a season-best 26.30 for second in the 50-freestyle, and freshman Allison LaBarbera (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) placed third at 27.50. Sophomore Mason DeLisio (Kingston, NY/Kingston) swam a season-best 22.04 to win the men's 50-freestyle, and Oh hit a personal record of 22.32 for second place.Â
In the 100-IM, junior Claire Armstrong (Woodbury, NY/Monroe Woodbury) finished third with a personal best of 1:07.82, while junior Emma Stephenson (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) touched fourth with a career fast of 1:09.70. Heaney took third for the men with a personal record of 1:02.01. Oneonta went one and two in the women's 50-yard fly. Guzzo took the top spot with a career-best of 29.61, and LaBarbera was second at 30.12. The men's team swept the first three places, with Copper winning at 24.63. Oh was second with a 25.27, and Cohen placed third with a time of 25.56.
Nakken earned a third-place finish in the 100-freestyle at 59.93, while DeLisio won the men's race by two seconds at 48.32.Â
Keddy set a personal best of 29.08 in the 50-yard backstroke for second place, and Trumino was third at a personal record of 30.69. Freshman Jessica Shaw (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) placed fourth with a time of 30.96. Junior Eli Cohen (Schoharie, NY/East Lake (Fla)) swam a 28.06 to finish second in the men's race.Â
Moving on to the 500-freestyle, Olson picked up her second win with a 5:41.50. Stanzione earned a personal best of 5:19.15 to go second overall.
Stephenson picked up a second-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 34.93, while Cadence Dudley (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) was third at 35.68. Stanzione tied for second on the men's side with a 29.51.
Both the men and women placed second in the 800-freestyle relay. The women swam at 8:41.69, and the men went at 7:26.87. Additionally, the New Paltz men's relay broke the Chase Pool record with a time of 7:24.08.Â
Oneonta next travels for the SUNYAC Championships from Feb. 15-18 in Buffalo, NY.Â
