ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's swimming & diving team grabbed some strong performances in Saturday's homer opener meet against Oswego on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fell 128-86 to the Lakers.
The meet opened with the closely contested 200-medley relay. The Red Dragons' group of seniors Claire Armstrong (Woodbury, NY/Monroe Woodbury) and Emma Stephenson (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) and juniors Anna McCall (Ligonier, PA/Ligonier Valley) and Callie Stinson (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) placed second with 2:01.66.
In the 200-freestyle, junior Lena Nakken (Islip, NY/Islip) swam a 2:10.66 to place second overall, while senior Sophia Olson (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) placed third at 2:11.82. Stinson took fourth in the 50-freestyle with a time of 27.68.
The 100-IM followed, and Stephenson and Armstrong placed second and third, respectively. Stephenson touched at a personal record of 1:08.85, while Armstrong swam a 1:08.95.
McCall won the 100-butterfly at a career-fast time of 1:06.45, and sophomore Allison LaBarbera (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) took fourth at 1:11.90.
Armstrong went on to take second in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:08.24, and sophomore Jessica Shaw (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) placed third at 1:08.40.
Nakken won the 500-freestyle by 13 seconds at 5:55.15, and freshman Ashley Brousseau (Peru, NY/Peru Central) was fourth at 6:17.11.
In the 100-breaststroke, junior Cadence Dudley (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) placed third at 1:17.44, and Stephenson was fourth at 1:18.72.
The swimming events concluded with the 200-freestyle relay, where the Red Dragons finished second overall. The group of Stinson, Alaska Lilliock (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy), Nakken, and Olson swam a time of 1:49.62.
Oneonta won the one-meter diving event, with sophomore Macayla Hodkinson (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scoring 171.80 points. Junior Paige Splendido (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) scored 141.85 points to place fourth.
Oneonta nexts competes at Brockport on Sat. Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
