Oneonta Falls in Five-Set Thriller to Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's fell in five sets to Oswego on Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons (3-15, 0-6 SUNYAC) won the first set 25-18 before the Lakers (5-12, 2-3 SUNYAC) won the following sets 25-19 and 25-20. Oneonta won the fourth 25-19 before falling 15-10 in the final. 

Oneonta knocked in 14 kills on a .323 hitting percentage in the first set but struggled to carry the offense into the second and third sets. 

Sophomore Gianna May (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) finished with a career-high 15 kills on .270 hitting, while Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) added nine kills and Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) tallied eight. Junior Layla Driscoll-Webster (Shullsburg, WI/Shullsburg) recorded 31 assists and 16 digs, and Anna Mollet had 15 digs.

Oswego's Cara Simplicio tallied a match-high 15 kills, and Grace Gdovin had seven. Kaylee Troy made 19 digs, and Emily Zeisler dished out 16 assists. 

Oneonta next plays Plattsburgh on Fri. Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in Dewar Arena.
