NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team's six game win streak ended Saturday afternoon as they lost to New Paltz, 35-48. The Red Dragons are now 9-4 on the season and 4-2 in the SUNYAC while the Hawks are 10-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Â
Oneonta opened the game with an 8-1 run that lasted the first seven minutes. Senior
Meg Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) scored the first basket, then later stole the ball from Graci Serravillo and found senior
Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) for one of her two buckets during the stretch. After junior
Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) made a layup to cap off the run, Maddie Gillis and freshman
Emma Schwarzbeck (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill Senior High School) traded three-pointers, maintaining the Red Dragons seven-point lead. In the final two minutes of the quarter, New Paltz closed the gap to within three as Serravillo made a free throw and Abby Korzekwinski made a couple layups while Oneonta freshman
Lidia Boucher (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central High School) split a pair at the line. Â
The Hawks kept the Red Dragons scoreless throughout the second quarter and scored seven points to go into halftime with a 16-12 lead. Brianna Fitzgerald made a layup, Lexi Van Vorst made a pair of free throws, and Jenny Walton hit a triple to give New Paltz the four-point advantage. Â
The scoring drought ended a couple minutes into the third quarter with a layup from sophomore
Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) that cut Oneonta's deficit to seven, 14-21. Later in the quarter, Stephens hit a shot from beyond the arc and junior
Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) made one from the line to make it 20-25 with 3:05 left. After the free throw, the Hawks went on an 11-0 stretch and extended their lead to 16. Harclerode ended the run with a layup and the Red Dragons entered the fourth down 22-36. Â
New Paltz maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game with a few three-pointers. Â
Harclerode and Dobrovosky each led the Red Dragons with six points. Harclerode also led the team with 11 rebounds and three assists, while Dobrovosky had two steals. Â
Korzekwinski finished with a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double. Fitzgerald ended with seven points and 13 rebounds. Â
Oneonta shot 25.5 percent from the field while New Paltz shot 24.6 percent, however the Hawks had a 48-33 rebounding advantage. Â
The Red Dragons are back in action Friday on the road against Geneseo at 5:30.Â
