ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The visiting New Paltz Hawks netted three goals in the second half to defeat the Oneonta women's soccer team 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Red Dragons fall to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons top the SUNYAC with a 7-1-1 record and are undefeated in the conference at 4-0.Â
The Hawks controlled possession early on, and goalkeeper Claire Lepper (Poland, NY/Poland) turned aside four shots within the first 15 minutes. New Paltz finally broke through at 14:26 when Lepper knocked away a shot by Rachel Eishert. Brooke Kelleher collected the rebound and chipped the ball into the net for the opening score.Â
Oneonta went on the attack after but could not find any clear shot attempts. First-year Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) had a shot sail high and right. Another shot from sophomore Kayla Schwizer (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) went wide right at the 41st minute.Â
New Paltz's Emma Voeghe put the Hawks up 2-0 in the 58th minute, and then Parris Burke headed a cross from Jillian Dontona for the third goal.Â
New Paltz scored again in the final four minutes from Mia Baldinger.Â
Ring led the team with two shots, while five other Red Dragons recorded a shot. Lepper finished the game with ten saves.Â
