GENESEO, N.Y. -Â First-year Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) scored her first-career goal to keep the game tied at halftime, but two Geneseo second-half goals gave the Knights a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon. Oneonta moves to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the SUNYAC with the loss, while Geneseo rises to 6-3-1 and 3-0 in the conference.Â
Geneseo controlled most of the game and ended up outshooting the Red Dragons 31-3. The Knights got on the board early in the first when Hannah Sullivan passed to Lindsey Clar, who scored at 17:23. Geneseo nearly scored again in the 19th minute after a Vassar foul gave Skala Mckinley a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Claire Lepper (Poland, NY/Poland) made the stop and kept it at 1-0.Â
Oneonta answered a minute later when senior Joie Tortorice (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) found Ring for the open look. Ring fired the shot and tied 1-1 at 21:44. The Knights took five more shots in the half, but the Oneonta defense held.
An early red card on the Red Dragons in the second half gave Geneseo the woman-up advantage, and the Knights scored again at 60:45 off a Nicole Bell goal. Oneonta struggled to break through as Geneseo netted its third goal at 71:14 from Abby Foster. Sophomore Leighann Perciballi (Northport, NY/Kings Park) had one final attempt in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper made the late save.Â
