A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team tried to rally late but came up short 19-13 at Cortland today in the SUNYAC tournament semifinals.  The loss for Oneonta closes out its 2022 season with a final record of 4-11.
 
The Inside Story
Oneonta executed its game plan in the first period grabbing a slim 5-4 lead heading into the second period of play.
 
After an opening goal by Cortland's Colton Smith, Oneonta scored back-to-back to take the lead at the 10:28 mark.  Senior 
Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) scored unassisted to get Oneonta on the scoreboard before sophomore 
Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) scored off an assist from junior 
Sam Haita (Stephentown/La Salle Institute).
 
The two teams traded goals the rest of the way in the opening quarter where Oneonta held its one-goal advantage.  Sophomore 
Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy), Krieg and freshman 
Vincent Tirino (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) tallied for Oneonta.  Krieg added a pair of assists and Maslin assisted on Krieg's goal.
 
The game got away from Oneonta in the second period, as the host Red Dragons turned up the attack outscoring Oneonta 10-1 to take a 14-6 lead at halftime.  Sophomore 
Ben Konak (South Salem/John Jay) scored his fourth goal of the year with an assist from Krieg.
 
Things were tight in the third period with Cortland moving its overall lead to nine goals grabbing an 18-9 lead entering the final period.  Maslin scored his second of the game with Krieg adding another assist.  Juniors 
Jack Dinnegan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) and 
Kieran Rowley (Long Beach/Long Beach) each scored unassisted goals.
 
The final period belonged to Oneonta by the score of 4-1 but it was too little, too late and they ran out of time.  Rowley scored a man-up goal in the first minute of the period with an assist from junior 
Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson).  Oneonta scored the final three goals of the game starting with Cannon at 9:02, Tirino at 6:17 and finally Maslin at 4:47.
 
Junior 
Luke Mignoli (Long Beach/Long Beach) recorded 17 saves in the game for Oneonta.
