A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta softball team ended the regular season today at New Paltz splitting a doubleheader with the Hawks.  Oneonta (22-11, 13-5 SUNYAC) has earned the No. 3 seed for the upcoming SUNYAC tournament beginning Thursday at top seeded Geneseo.
 
The Inside Story
Game 1 – Oneonta 3, New Paltz 1
 
Rookie 
Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) paced the offense in the opening game collecting two of the team's three hits including a solo home run in the second inning to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead.  The solo shot was Serena's eighth of the season.  She also added a double in the fifth and came around to score Oneonta's second run of the game on an error by New Paltz (25-25, 12-6 SUNYAC).
 
Oneonta's third run came in the fifth on a double steal where sophomore 
Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East) scored from third base.
 
Sophomore 
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) was solid on the mound for Oneonta picking up her ninth win of the season striking out two and allowing six hits over five innings.  Freshman 
Angelina Scalere (Ardsley/Ardsley) pitched two innings to pick up the save.
 
Game 2 – New Paltz 8, Oneonta 5
 
In game two, the Red Dragons trailed 2-0 entering the top of the third inning when they plated four runs to take a 4-2 lead.  Oneonta loaded the bases with one out for sophomore 
Gianna Cancelleri (Naples, FL/Washingtonville (NY)) who hit a single to center field driving in classmate 
Delaney Haley (Levittown/Division Avenue) and freshman 
Sophia Mangone (Ardsley/Ardsley).  Senior 
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) scored the next run on a sacrifice fly by junior 
Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park).  The final run of the inning was scored by Cancelleri who came around on a double by Serena.
 
In the bottom of the Inning, the Hawks regained the lead with five runs of its own.  New Paltz collected five hits in the inning including a double and a triple.
 
New Paltz added its final run in the home half of the fourth inning and Oneonta added its last run in the top of the sixth inning.
 
Serena collected three more hits in game two while Nagel added a pair of hits.
 
What's Next
Oneonta's opening game in the SUNYAC tournament on Friday will be against New Paltz.  The entire bracket of the double elimination tournament will be posted to
