Men's Tennis close out 2021/22 campaign with back to back wins v Oswego

9-0 shutout

April 29, 2022

Oswego, NY - The SUNY Oneonta Men's Tennis Team finished their inaugural season in the NJAC and did so by downing the SUNY Oswego Lakers for the second day in a row and did so by shutting them down completely 9-0.

Doubles was the beginning of the shutout as the men of Oneonta won on all three-flights.  Number one doubles did not let their opponents at all into the match as senior Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) closing out his career with junior Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) were almost flawless turning in an 8-1 win.  Juniors Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and August Lepique avenged their loss from the day prior and won 8-6 today.  Sophomore Yonathan Glattman (Hewlett/Hewlett) got the doubles start today along with freshman Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) and were victorious as they clinched the shutout in doubles for the Red Dragon men securing a 3-0 going into singles.

Positions one-six had little difficulty dismantling the Lakers and ended their season without a single match lost.  Lepique dropped only two-games on route to a 6-0, 6-2 win.  Spottek also had two-games earned against him and he turned in a season ending singles victory 6-1, 6-1.  Smith ended his career with a well earned victory playing through injury and lost the first set in his match before he stormed back to gain  a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 career ending win.  Dornsife was dominant in the first set 6-1 and warded off a comeback in the second set by his Lakers opponent and held onto a straight set win clinching a 7-5 triumph in the second set.  Khair secured a fifth position win and took out the Oswego Laker opponent locking him up up at 6-3, 6-2.  Finally Glattman for the second day in a row did not lose a game and double bageled his opponent 6-0, 6-0.  Glattman was flawless over these past two days in the sixth position and secured the shutout for the men to conclude the 2021/22 campaign.

The Red Dragon men will take the summer to heal up and bring in a two highly touted freshmen while only losing one senior.  They begin their practices in late August in preparation for the 2022/23 season.
