The SUNY Oneonta baseball team was defeated in their SUNYAC series opener against Plattsburgh 11-1, Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Red Dragons to 11-22 overall and 4-12 in SUNYAC, and the Cardinals improved to 16-14 and 5-8 in conference. Â
The Inside Story
Holding a 3-0 lead after six innings, Plattsburgh put the game out of reach with a four-run seventh inning. Mike Rasquin scored one with a single, Alex Kornblau brought in Rasquin with a double, and Steve Messerschmitt knocked in the final two with a single up the middle. Â
After senior
Michael Sabatine (Fairport/Fairport) tripled to lead off the eighth, junior
Nate Guillen (Haverstraw/North Rockland) hit a single to left that drove in Sabatine and put Oneonta on the board.
The Cardinals tacked on four more in the bottom half of the eighth to give the final 11-1 score. Aaron Roman had an RBI-single, Jacob Hutton scored two with a double, and Connor Golanski capped it off with a sacrifice fly. Â
