A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team survived another high-scoring affair as they defeated Mount Saint Mary College 13-10, Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 11-21, while the Knights fell to 12-17. Â
The Inside StoryÂ
Oneonta ran out to a 4-0 lead after four innings. Sophomore
Bradley Turner (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) singled to score one in the second inning, junior
Liam Kaseta (Somers/Somers) knocked in two with a single in the fourth, and senior
Matthew McAllister (Vestal/Vestal) brought in Kaseta with a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
The Knights then strung together nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Anthony Laietta recorded three RBI with a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single during the stretch. Brandon Nolasco ended the rally with an infield single that scored Dominick Marzigliano.
Oneonta returned the favor, scoring nine in the seventh and eighth innings. With two on and one out, Turner started the Red Dragon rally with a two-run double to left field. Turner reached third after sophomore
Noah Frasca (St. James/St. John the Baptist) laid down a bunt, and crossed home after a throwing error during senior
Patrick McGee's (Mahopac/Mahopac) at-bat. Kaseta was up next and tied the game with a two-run triple, then gave the Red Dragons the lead when freshman
Anthony Foglia (Somers/North Salem) hit him in with a single. Oneonta extended the lead to 13-9 in the eighth off two sacrifice flies from McGee and Kaseta, and Turner who scored on a throw down to second that was trying to pick off Frasca. Â
Mount Saint Mary was not ready to quit and started the ninth with two straight walks. The Knights scored one after Coleman Barnes doubled to right center, narrowing the gap to three with no outs. Sophomore
Kyle Rosenberger (Montgomery/Valley Central) was then called from the bullpen, faced three batters, struck out all three, and earned the save. Â
