The SUNY Oneonta softball team swept a doubleheader at home today versus Oswego. The two wins put Oneonta at 20-9 overall and 11-3 in the SUNYAC. The 20 wins for the Red Dragons are the sixth time under coach Curran-Headley that they have won at least 20 games.

Game 1 – Oneonta 5, Oswego 1

Another solid pitching performance was turned in by sophomore
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) who went the distance allowing five hits, one run, and striking out four batters. Dionisio is now 7-1 on the year.

Oswego scored its only run in the first inning on a fielder's choice bringing home Tai Smith from third base. Smith led off the game with a walk, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a single by Taylor Dubois.

Oneonta tied the game in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by junior
Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park) that drove in senior
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South). Koch led off the inning with a triple to left center field.

The Red Dragons took advantage of a fielding error in the fourth to score its second run.Â
Sophia Mangone (Ardsley/Ardsley) reached on an error to start the inning that allowed her to get to second base. She went to third on a single by sophomore
Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East) before scoring on a single by junior
Gianna DiGiovanni (Wantagh/Sacred Heart Academy).

Oneonta added to its lead with a pair of runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth for its final total. Freshman
Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) doubled in senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) for the first run in the fifth and Hussey hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Serena.

Nagel hit an RBI double down the left field line in the sixth that drove in Koch after she singled and stole second base.

Game 2 – Oneonta 7, Oswego 2
The Red Dragons wasted no time in jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Koch led off with a single, stole second, and then scored on a triple by Nagel for the opening run. Hussey drove in the second run of the inning and the final two runs scored on an error and a wild pitch.

Serena hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Koch with the lone run in the fifth.

Nagel and Koch figured in the scoring once again in the sixth when Nagel doubled to bring home Koch with the final run of the game for Oneonta. The first run of the sixth was scored by sophomore
Delaney Haley (Levittown/Division Avenue) on a throwing error.

Oneonta used four pitchers in the second game with the win going to sophomore
Lauren Weber (Sayville/Sayville). Weber pitched three scoreless innings in relief of starter
Kathryn Davies (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional). Weber recorded a pair of strikeouts while allowing four hits.

What's Next
Oneonta will play its scheduled makeup doubleheader on Monday versus Brockport. The contest will take place at Onondaga CC in Syracuse beginning at 3pm.
