Sophomore
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) came within one out of throwing her first collegiate no-hitter before settling for a one-hit, complete game shutout in the second game of a doubleheader split for the SUNY Oneonta softball team today versus its rivals from Cortland. Oneonta dropped game 1, 11-5 and now stand at 18-9 overall and 9-3 in the SUNYAC.

Game 2 – Oneonta 2, Cortland 0

Dionisio only faced three batters over the minimum in picking up her team-leading sixth win of the season against one defeat. The one hit that she allowed was a two-out double in the top of the seventh inning.

Oneonta scored single runs in the first and fourth innings to account for its total in the game. Sophomore
Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East) paced the offense with a 3-for-3 performance with one run batted in. Freshman
Sophia Mangone (Ardsley/Ardsley) collected two hits and drove in the other run for the Red Dragons.

Game 1 – Cortland 11, Oneonta 5

The visiting Red Dragons (17-11, 8-2 SUNYAC) exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit. The big hit in the inning was a pinch-hit, two-run single by Brooke Scheibe. Four of the runs in the inning were unearned off starter
Cadence Brennan (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), who took the loss.

Cortland added single runs in the fifth and seventh while plating three runs in the sixth inning. Alyssa Finno drove in two of the three runs in the sixth with a double to center field.

Oneonta scored a pair of runs in the home half of the first inning to grab its only lead of the game. Senior
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) led off with a double and was replaced at second base by another double off the bat of sophomore
Gianna Cancelleri (Naples, FL/Washingtonville (NY)). Cancelleri then stole third and came into score on a ground out by senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford).

In the fifth inning, Oneonta loaded the bases with two outs and a walk to junior
Gianna DiGiovanni (Wantagh/Sacred Heart Academy) forced classmate
Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park) in from third.

Oneonta loaded the bases again in the sixth and scored a pair on a single to center field by freshman
Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla).

Cancelleri registered a pair of hits in the game to lead the offense.

Oneonta will host Oswego tomorrow for its final home games of the season beginning at noon.
