A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta softball team swept a doubleheader today at home versus Fredonia.  The Red Dragons are now 16-7 overall and 7-1 in the SUNYAC while the Blue Devils drop to 6-18 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

The Inside Story
Game 1 – Oneonta 9, Fredonia 1 (5 innings)

Oneonta surrendered its only run in the top of the first inning, as Fredonia took advantage of a couple of miscues in the field to plate an unearned run off starter
Cadence Brennan (Niskayuna/Niskayuna).  Brennan went the distance allowing six hits to record her fifth win of the season.

After a scoreless bottom of the first for Oneonta, they scored in each of the next four innings including four runs in the home half of the fifth to end the game.

Oneonta's first two runs of the contest came courtesy of a two-run home run by sophomore
Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East) to straight away center field.  Hussey's home run, which was the first of her collegiate career, was one of four extra-base hits in the game for the Red Dragons.

Junior
Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park) drove in a pair of runs and was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple.  Nagel had the game-ending hit in the fifth with a two-run single that scored senior
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) and sophomore
Delaney Haley (Levittown/Division Avenue).

Senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Game 2 – Oneonta 3, Fredonia 0

In the nightcap, Oneonta scored a pair of runs in the second inning to grab a 2-0 lead.  Back-to-back triples by freshman
Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) and Palmatier to lead off the inning gave the Red Dragons its first run.  Palmatier scored on a one-out double by Hussey.

The Red Dragons scored its final run of the game in the fourth in the exact same fashion as they scored its opening run.  This time it was Hussey who hit a one-out triple that was followed by sophomore
Aysia Oliver's (Brentwood/Brentwood) triple.

Palmatier, Hussey and Oliver each collected two hits to pace the offense.

Starter
Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) picked up her fourth win of the season throwing four innings allowing only one hit.  Dionisio retired the first nine batters she faced before surrendering a walk to begin the fourth.

Freshman
Angelina Scalere (Ardsley/Ardsley) picked up her second save of the season finishing the final three innings and recording four strikeouts while allowing only one hit.
