Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Two wins in a row for men's tennis, they down Houghton 6-3

The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team came out swinging today and captured their second win in a row.  Starting the season 0-3 they now move to 2-3.  They won today missing a starter but the squad came together and pulled off a crucial victory.

The action got underway and the Red Dragons came out of the doubles stanza with a 2-1 lead.  The top flighted team today was junior Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) and freshman Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling).  Khair who was making his first appearance in the first doubles spot.  The duo did not disappoint and doubled up their opponents with an impressive 8-4 win.  Gaining the second victory on the afternoon was the pair at the second flight.  Juniors August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) and Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) had the identical score and were never really in trouble going on to their 8-4 win securing a 2-1 lead going into singles play.

The Red Dragon men then went onto to secure victories in the 1-4 positions.  Lepique in the number one spot took his opponent out in straight sets commanding a 6-1, 6-2 victory.  Spottek at the second spot went down 1-4 in the first set and climbed out of trouble winning the next five games and the set 6-4.  He then cruised to the win in a 6-2 second set triumph.  The third flight saw Dornsife win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 also coming back from 1-4 down in the second set to notch an all-important confidence building win.  Khair got the final victory on the day in the fourth position with a 6-1, 7-5 win.   The second set saw Khair have to fight back to get even and eventually he pulled away and that clinched the 6-3 overall win for the SUNY Oneonta Men's Tennis Team.

Next up is a four-match road trip to New Jersey to face three-NJAC opponents.  The first match will be on Thursday, 3/31 against New Jersey City University with the action getting underway at 1:00 PM.
