Cortland takes doubleheader from baseball in SUNYAC opener

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team was swept by Cortland in their SUNYAC opening doubleheader Friday afternoon. Oneonta (5-12, 0-2 SUNYAC) fell in game one 6-1 before dropping the nightcap 4-0.  

The Inside Story
Game One – Oneonta 1, Cortland 6

Leding 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Cortland's Danny Coleman hit a double to deep left field and scored Matthew Krafft and Antonio Pragana.  

Oneonta scored one in the bottom of the seventh after junior Liam Kaseta (Somers/Somers) singled to right field and scored junior Jake Barrett (Hauppauge/St. Anthony's).  

Cortland tacked on another two in the eighth, one off Pragana's double and another off a defensive error.  

Junior Anthony Gonzalez (Carmel/Carmel) was the only Oneonta batter with multiple hits, going 2-for-4. Freshman Kyle Roper (Tappan/Tappan Zee) received the loss after pitching 7.2 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, and walking one. Sophomore Matthew Russo (Poughquag/Arlington) pitched the last 1.1 innings, allowed one hit and struck out one.  

Game Two – Oneonta 0, Cortland 4
Entering the fifth inning up 1-0, Cortland scored three more runs off a couple errors and a sacrifice fly.  

Oneonta could only record two hits against Zack Durant and Patrick Dalton. The lone hits were singles from Gonzalez and Kaseta. Senior Michael Losak (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) pitched a complete game, allowed four hits, two earned runs, and struck out seven in the loss.

The Red Dragons' will finish the series tomorrow at noon at the Red Dragon Baseball Field.
