A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team opened their Spring Break trip in Bridgewater, Va. to take on Bridgewater College. A five-run sixth inning led the Eagles to a 9-3 win and moved the Red Dragons to 3-3 on the season. Â
The Inside Story
Bridgewater worked a couple walks and got a single to get the bases loaded in the second. They only got one runner across home, off a Jarret Biesecker ground out. Â
The Eagles tacked on another run in the third with a single to center, giving them a 2-0 lead.
The Red Dragons tied the game in the fourth. Senior
Patrick McGee (Mahopac/Mahopac) led the inning off with a single to short and made it to second on a stolen base. Junior
Anthony Gonzalez (Carmel/Carmel) hit McGee in with a single to right field. After junior
Liam Kaseta (Somers/Somers) and senior
Michael Sabatine (Fairport/Fairport) got the bases loaded with two-out singles, sophomore
Bradley Turner (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) got hit by a pitch and brought Gonzalez home.
In the bottom half of the fourth, the Eagles regained the lead off Tanner Montgomery's single.
Hunter Clever hit a single to centerfield and brought an Eagle baserunner home in the fifth, giving Bridgewater a 4-2 lead. Â
Bridgewater extended their lead to seven following a five-run one-out rally in the sixth. The Eagles loaded the bases after a couple walks and an error, then hit three consecutive singles to left field, tallying four runs. The last run of the rally was scored off a wild pitch. Â
Senior
Matthew McAllister (Vestal/Vestal) drove in McGee with a double to center in the eighth to cut the deficit to six. Oneonta got a couple men on with walks in the ninth but could not advance them home. Â
Just the Stats
Six Red Dragons recorded a hit, McGee scored twice, and McAllister, Gonzalez, and Turner brought in a run.
Senior
Michael Losak (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) received the loss, pitched 4.0+ innings, allowed five hits, four runs, and struck out five. Sophomore
Matthew Russo (Poughquag/Arlington), junior
Logan Carriero (Somers/Somers), and senior
Benjamin Marsh (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Lockview) combined for 3.2 innings, allowed no runs, and struck out five.
Reid Long received the win for the Eagles after relieving Waring Garber. Long pitched 4.0 innings, allowed one hit, one run, and struck out four.
What's Next
The Red Dragons will travel to Maryville, Tenn. to face Maryville College, for one game, on Monday at 3 pm.
