Maryville College takes two from Baseball

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team was swept in a two-game series against Maryville College. The Scots from Tennesse took game one 17-4 on Monday, and game two 14-0 on Tuesday. The Red Dragons are now 3-5 on the year.

The Inside Story
Maryville got the runs rolling early in game one, scoring four in the first two innings.

Oneonta was able to cut the lead to two in the top of the third, with a two-run home run from senior Patrick McGee (Mahopac/Mahopac).  

From the bottom of the third to the top of the seventh the Scots scored 12 unanswered runs, extending their lead 16-2. During the rally, Zach Fritts led the charge with two doubles, a single, and five RBI.  

The Red Dragons scored a couple more runs in the eighth off a single from freshman Benjamin Curcio (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury).

Before game one was final, Maryville tacked on one more off a wild pitch.


The Scots kept the runs rolling in game two, scoring three apiece in the first and second innings. Zac Graham scored four of the runners.

Maryville put the game out of reach after they scored another five in the fourth, extending the lead to 11.

The Scots tallied a few insurance runs in the fifth and eighth, to give the game a 14-0 final.  

Just the Stats
Junior Anthony Gonzalez (Carmel/Carmel) was the only Red Dragon to have multiple hits in game one, going 2-for-2 with a walk. McGee finished 1-for-3 with his two-run shot.  

Senior Matthew Petrossi (Fairport/Fairport) received the loss game one after pitching 1.2 innings, allowing three earned runs off two hits, and striking out one.  

In game two, junior Sean Liquori (Thiells/North Rockland), freshman Andrew Bonilla (Walden/Valley Central), and Gonzalez recorded a hit.

Sophomore Kyle Rosenberger (Montgomery/Valley Central) received the loss game two after pitching 3.0 innings, allowing 10 runs, and striking out three.

What's Next
The Red Dragons will make one more stop for their spring break trip in Danville, Va. for a doubleheader against Averett University on Wednesday starting at 1 pm.
